Our story

The First Strudel House of Pest is a family-owned restaurant. It opened back in 2007 in the heart of Budapest. The historic building of the restaurant inspired both our recipes and the interior design: the walls are full of memories; each detail tells a small family story. Gastro-nomic experience in a historic venue!

Our mission is to preserve the true Hungarian tradition of strudel-making. We designed every corner of the restaurant with the spirit to celebrate this authenticity.

The Restaurant

We are proud of each and every family relic in the restaurant, but the most outstanding item inside is the Split Flap Display. An elegant fusion of the past and the future. This exclusively designed display is unique all across Europe, as with the integrated software technology we can track the all-time strudel consumption in our restaurant. Moreover, we can even display customized, personal messages!

Our restaurant is perfect for both business and private meetings or events. Our guests can enjoy their breakfast, lunch or dinner in a historic environment coupled with cozy interiors and a well-designed gastronomic atmosphere.

Strudel stretching show

Stretching a strudel dough is a true form of art that had been perfected for centuries. We do not simply tell you a story and show you how it’s done. At the end of the demonstration some brave guests can even try to stretch the dough themselves!

The strudel stretching show includes:

brief 10-minute video about the history and origins of strudels (languages available: Hungarian, English, German, French, Italian, Russian, Japanese)
strudel stretching and making show with the active participation of guests
